AI Literacy Workshops Launching: Register Your Interest
Glitch is launching our pilot programme of workshops on AI Literacy.
These workshops are to help increase AI literacy and knowledge about automated decision-making (ADM) in public services among Black women and Black gender-expansive people.
These workshops are free and aim to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to understand what algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI) are, how these technologies may be being used in public services, and what this means for Black women and Black gender-expansive people who are impacted.
Knowledge about the technological systems that affect our lives is essential in our fight for resistance. If we want to challenge the use of AI/ADM we must first understand it, have the language to advocate for ourselves and have a good grasp of our rights.
AI/ADM Literacy is understanding how AI/ADM systems work. This does not mean you have to be a technical expert or have experience in computer science - most of us do not know the technical details of how our computers or Wi-Fi systems work! But what we do need to know is how these AI systems are applied by our public services and how these systems might impact on our daily lives.
Our report Welf(AI)re: A Racial and Gender Injustice Analysis of AI and Automated Decision-Making in UK Social Security describes the extent of the use of AI, algorithms and automated decision-making systems known to be used in the context of housing, Universal Credit or other benefits, and impacts on Black women and Black gender-expansive people.
About the workshops
Workshops will be 90 minutes long
We are running 8 workshops in 2026
7 workshops will be online, and 1 will be in-person in London
Accessibility
The majority of our workshops will be hosted online
The in-person workshop will be at an accessible venue, and we will ask participants to take steps such as testing and/or masking to reduce risks of transmitting Covid.
We are planning to host a BSL workshop in early 2027. If you would be interested in participating, please flag when you register your interest and we will contact you in 2027
Who can take part in the workshops?
These workshops are for Black women (trans-inclusive) and Black gender-expansive people living in the UK. Eligibility under gender or racial identities is self-determined by participants
No prior technical knowledge or experience with AI is required - just an interest in understanding more about AI and how automated decision-making may be affecting your life
Participants must be over 18
These initial workshops are a pilot which will be running through autumn 2026 and into early 2027. The learnings of the pilot programme will be used to inform the development of our future workshops programme.
